One of the men arrested in connection with the death of Elizabeth McCarthy in Tralee last week has had his period of detention extended for a further six hours. The second man remains in custody. Both were arrested this morning under section 4 of the criminal justice act, this allows them to be detained for up to six hours, and can be extended for another six. Gardai are continuing to treat the death of 32 year old Elizabeth Mc Carthy as suspicious. The body of the mother of three was discovered in the River Finglas near Kearney`s Bridge in Ballyard in Tralee last Wednesday by a man walking his dog. Following a post mortem by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster a number of samples were sent to the State Forensic Laboratory for further testing. The results from these are believed to be crucial to this investigation and they are expected in coming days. Meanwhile the two men arrested this morning continue to be questioned at Tralee Garda Station. The 25 year old man arrested in Fermoy in County Cork at 6 am this morning has had his period of detention extended for a further six hours. While the second man in his 30’s arrested at a quarter past 9 in Tralee is still within the six hour limit. The men are not native to Kerry but are understood to have been living in the county for some time.
