Twelve patients are waiting on trolleys at University Hospital Kerry today. Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there’s a total of 525 people on trolleys in emergency departments and on wards in hospitals across the country. University Hospital Limerick has one of the highest numbers of people waiting for a bed, at 40 patients. New figures from the INMO also show that 89 patients were on trolleys in Kerry awaiting admission for in-patient treatment throughout last month, down from 125 during the same month last year. This bucks the national trend, which saw a five per cent rise over the past year in patients waiting on trolleys to almost 9,400 during March.
