TUI Conference hears young teachers won’t be able to stay in profession unless pay concerns addressed

TUILogoYoung teachers won’t be able to afford to stay in their chosen profession, unless pay concerns are addressed. That’s according to General Secretary of the Teachers Union of Ireland, John MacGabhann in his address at the TUI conference in Killarney today. Young teachers entering the profession will earn €300,000 less than their colleagues if the current graded pay system remains in place. This “gross unfairness”, he said, will leave many young teachers disaffected: [audio_player src=””] Mr McGowan also warned against those who seek to privatise the education system and said the union would first meet with any new Minister for Education before deciding on industrial action to further its claims.
