TUI Chair at IT Tralee says its naïve to expect parity in merger

The Chair of the TUI Branch at IT Tralee says it is “naïve in the extreme” to believe that there will be parity in the planned merger with Cork Institute of Technology. tui The 4,000 members of the union who work at ITs have voted in favour of industrial action over the Technological Universities Bill. President of IT Tralee Dr Oliver Murphy rejected the union’s claims that the merger with CIT to form the Munster Technological University would lead to job losses. Chair of the TUI at IT Tralee Cyril Gavaghan (PRON: GAV-A-HAN) believes that Cork will lead the way in the merger. He says if programmes are cut locally it could mean that a Kerry student who can’t afford to leave the county to study may not go to college: [audio_player src=””]
