Tralee Town Council has voted to change the use of 24 holiday apartments at the Basin in town to residential. A proposal to change a further 4 apartments to offices was knocked back by the members. The Basin area of Tralee is zoned for leisure tourism and Cllr Miriam Mc Gillycuddy said she’s concerned that the restaurants originally planned for the ground floor of the basin development have not materialised. She was supported by Cllr Terry O`Brien who said that a marina was also part of the plan. However town clerk Mike Scannell said the marina will be progressed in the near future. He said a restaurant may follow once this happens. Town planner Victoria Mc Carthy recommended changing the zoning to residential but not the change to office use. She said all previous applications for offices have been refused by the council. 11 members supported her recommendations with one abstention.
