Travellers fear part of their heritage could be lost

The Traveller Community in Listowel say part of their heritage will be lost if the long standing tradition locally known as the throw me down something`s is abolished. A ruling in the Circuit Court by Judge Carroll Moran for an offence committed by a member of the Traveller Community for begging may see the tradition lost. Spokesman for The Traveller Community Leonard Evans says he feels their heritage is under siege. Paul Gilligan with the ISPCC says the issue of child begging is a serious one.
