Tralee woman sentenced to three months for assaulting Garda

A woman accused of assaulting a female garda has been sentenced to three months in jail. Tralee Courthouse3 But Judge James O’Connor suspended the sentence he imposed on Stephanie Bawden on condition she pays €750 to the Garda Benevolent Fund. Stephanie Bawden of Market Gate House, Market Gate, Tralee denied assaulting Garda Eilish Cronin at Tralee Garda Station on April 15th, 2014. The 36-year-old said she had no memory of the incident but knew herself and would never assault a garda. She apologised to the garda in court. Garda Cronin said the accused had closed her fist and struck her on the side of the head during a search at Tralee Garda Station. Judge James O’Connor was going to adjourn the matter for the payment of a contribution to the Garda Benevolent Fund but Ms Bawden said she wanted to have it finalised so she could get her life in order. Imposing a three month sentence, Judge O’Connor suspended it on condition Ms Bawden makes a €750 donation to the Garda Benevolent Fund by November 1st.
