A Tralee man has been named the Kerry FBD Young Farmer of the Year. 28 year old Kieran Counihan is a dairy farmer milking 80 cows who plans to make his herd more efficient to increase production. The competition now in its 16th year is run by Macra na Feirme and the IFA. Kieran will now go on to represent the county in the semi-finals of the competition which take place on August 20th and 22nd. Six young farmers will then go forward to the finals in September.
