The Institute of Technology in Tralee has been granted approval to construct a library, information centre and a health and leisure multi purpose centre. The college has also been given the go ahead to build all weather and grass pitches. The announcement was made today at the official opening of the Institutes North Campus. The campus which cost in the region of 23 million euro to develop will house the business and information technology and hotel, catering and tourism courses.Phase one of the north campus was opened by the Minister for Education and Science Noel Dempsey today. Tralee R.T.C. was established in 1977 and was designated an Institute of Technology in 1997. The I.T. is part of an integrated 113 acre site which is shared with Kerry Technology Park. The fit out of the new buildings cost 7 and a half million euro resulting in a total development cost of 23 and a half million euro. The hotel, catering and tourism facility comprises of 5 state of the art kitchens a restaurant with a capacity for 120 people, a bar, demonstration theatre, class and resource rooms. A new nursing and health care building is to open in September funded by Enterprise Ireland and local industry.
