Tralee Gardaí say ‘invisible’ UV markings may assist in tracking stolen machinery

Farm machinery should be concealed away from roadside if possible and given a unique mark to prevent theft.

That’s according to Garda Colum Ó Cúiv of Tralee Garda Station, speaking as Gardaí crime prevention week is launched.

Garda Ó Cúiv says, as the evenings get shorter, farm yards may be targetted.

He says new products – such as ultra violet pens which are invisible to the naked eye – can be employed to mark machinery and verify ownership in the case of a theft.

Garda Ó Cúiv says it’s important to keep a record of chassis numbers and to photograph farm machinery.
