The Goblin Plant in Tralee has closed for two weeks as there is not enough work. The factory has almost halved its workforce in the past year. Negotiations on a new round of redundancies are ongoing between union and management. There will shortly be just 50 full time staff at Goblin, at the beginning of the year there were 120.30 job cuts are being sought at the vacuum manufacturing plant, so far 24 staff have subscribed and the remaining six will be achieved compulsarilary. In May over 40 redundancies were achieved after months of talks at The Labour Court. The company faces stiff competition from Chinese and Eastern European imports.Staff had agreed to go on a three day week long term rather than face a two week closure however the company said there were not enough orders to sustain short time. The plant will now remain closed for the next two weeks.
