Tom Crean Society returns from the Antarctica.

The Tom Crean Society has returned from a trip to the Antarctica this morning. The 11 strong team left on the 19th February and have spent the last few retracing the steps of Tom Crean. The team brought a hand-carved memorial stone from Minard where Tom Crean left to join the royal navy in 1893. The stone was left in a museum in South Georgia. The team have also brought a similar stone which will be laid at the Tom Crean Memorial in Annauscaul. Tom Crean was a famous South Kerry explorer who took part in South Pole expeditions with fellow explorers Scott and Shackleton.
