The Kerry’s Eye Tralee International Marathon is underway this morning. The event sees runners of all levels – from elite athletes to first-timers – take on one of the most scenic routes in all of Ireland. The full- and half-marathon events debuted in 2013 and attracted almost 1,500 participants from all over the world. 2016 is a special year for Tralee, with the town celebrating its 800th Birthday. To mark this special occasion each finisher of this year’s Tralee International Marathon will receive a special edition commemorative “Tralee 800” finisher top and medal. A number of roads will be closed for a time today to facilitate the marathon. The Matt Talbot Road and High Street will be closed until 10:30 this morning. James Street will be also be closed from 11 am until 4pm and diversions will be in place.
