A tense meeting is expected this afternoon in Killarney when Tanaiste Mary Harney addresses the conference of the Irish Nurse`s Organisation. Minister Harney`s attendance follows yesterday’s unanimous vote by ino members to condemn health employer`s threat to withhold their pay increases. The Minister for Health will also be facing nurses angry about the continuing overcrowding problems in accident and emergency departments around the country. In recent weeks the INO has organised a series of protests in hospitals nationwide including Kerry General to highlight what they claim is a crisis situation. Nurses are also annoyed by the threat by Health Employers to withhold a pay increase of three and a half per cent due to them on the first of June.
