A man who was growing cannabis plants in the attic of his Milltown home had been given two suspended sentences. 37 year old Ganesan Balkerishna 18 Milltown Village, Milltown pleaded guilty to the possession of cannabis and cultivation of the drug at that address on 3rd July 2013. Gardai called to the house following the receipt of confidential information. The accused brought them to the attic where three fully mature cannabis plants were under a tent-like structure which had heat lamps. Elsewhere in the house there were more plants, digital weighing scales and other paraphernalia. Gardai said the cannabis with an estimated value of €3,850 was for the accused’s personal use. Judge Tom O’Donnell said it was not helpful to the accused’s case that his family home was used to grow the drugs. He handed down a 12 month sentence for the possession charge which was suspended for three years. For the cultivation charge an 18 month sentence also suspended for three years was handed down.
