Sunderland’s Mick McCarthy has been named as the Nationwide Manager of the Month for March. McCarthy has guided the Black Cats to 17 points from seven Nationwide League encounters and a place in the last four of the FA Cup. They play Millwall on Sunday at Old Trafford for a place in the final.Sunderland are eight points off the Division One automatic promotion places, currently held by Norwich and West Brom, and have a game in hand on their rivals. McCarthy said: “We’re getting nearer the top two and they’ll be looking over their shoulders a bit now.”We will just try and continue to pick up points and teams above us have all got to come here so automatic promotion is in our hands. “They have both been there for a long time this season and so the odd nagging doubt is bound to creep in”. The Division Two award goes to Mark McGhee of Brighton following four wins and a draw from six games which sees the Seagulls in the heart of the play-off picture. In Division Three the winner is Huddersfield Manager Peter Jackson, with the Terriers now in the third automatic promotion place after taking 13 points from six fixtures. Graham Turner of Hereford United collects the Nationwide Conference award following five consecutive wins.
