Radio Kerry understands that Skellig Michael will be used as a location for Star Wars Filming in September. This follows reports that boatmen are not available to transport passengers to the site on the week beginning September 14th. The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht says the Irish Film Board is the appropriate body to comment on the matter. The Irish Examiner reported that boatmen are not available to take visitors to the UNESCO world heritage site in September. This has fuelled speculation that the island will once again act as a backdrop in scenes in a future Star Wars Film. Radio Kerry understands members of a production crew have returned to the area and the site will be used again for filming in mid September. When contacted by Radio Kerry, a spokesperson for the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht declined to comment on the matter. He said the Irish Film Board, which is independent of the Department, was the appropriate body to deal with the query. A response is still awaited from the Irish Film Board.
