Six per cent monthly increase in Kerry’s Live Register

Kerry’s Live Register rose to its highest level in eight months in December. Social Welfare The Central Statistics Office says last month 12,428 people signed on in the county. The figures show 2015 ended on a disappointing note in terms of the Live Register with a six per cent monthly increase. Over the course of the year the Live Register had fallen to levels not seen in many years. However, when December is compared to the same month in 2014 there is a 7.5 per cent yearly decrease in the figures. The biggest monthly increases in December were recorded in major urban centres of Tralee, Killarney and Listowel. Killarney had the biggest jump to 2,114, Tralee rose to 5,154 and Listowel increased to 2,353. Elsewhere there were rises in Killorglin to 983, Dingle to 797, Caherciveen to 522 and Kenmare to 505.
