SIPTU president says everyone in Luas dispute should do everything they can

Anticipation builds...Testing begins on new LUAS line at Spencer Dock Bridge. The Luas Red Line, which is set to open in December, will carry passengers over the Spencer Dock Bridge across the Royal Canal and along Mayor Street to the Point Depot. It is estimated that up to 25,000 people will work in the proximity of Spencer Dock, with a further 6,000 living there by its completion in 2014.Photo Shane O Neill / FennellsThe President of SIPTU says everyone who has a role to play in the Luas dispute should do everything they can. Luas workers overwhelmingly rejected pay proposals that included pay increases of up to 18-point-7 per-cent, over a period less than three years. The planned strike action means there will be no Luas services in Dublin this Easter Sunday or Monday. Earlier, the acting Transport Minister, Pascal Donohoe, said the strikes are ‘not acceptable’. Jack O’Connor says there’s still time available – before the planned strikes go ahead – to address what he described as “inadequacies” in the proposal.
