Sinn Féin to challenge Statutory Instrument

sinn feinSinn Féin will challenge a Statutory Instrument on penalty points for the fishing industry. A High Court judgement ruled to abolish the penalty point system for fishermen, however, Minister Simon Coveney subsequently signed a new Statutory Instrument to invalidate the ruling. The spokesperson for Fisheries, Martin Ferris, says that the High Court judgement had been “greeted with a sigh of relief, as the system was unfair and imposed penalty points without recourse to the courts”. Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty added that “Sinn Féin will submit a Dáil motion to repeal the Statutory Instrument as soon as possible.”
