Kerry County Council have advertised a single jarvey licence for Killarney town.
It is the first-time competition for a licence has been opened up after the council rejected calls to ringfence the permits for family members.
The number of jarvey licences in Killarney town is limited to 37 due to traffic levels and all operators of jaunting cars are required to hold a licence under bylaws.
