SHB to reapply for planning permission for Tralee care home

The Southern Health Bord is to apply for planning permission for a care home to be built in Tralee. The health board has confirmed that the proposed development is part of eight new care houses to be built in the region. A number of elderly public patients are being catered for in private nursing homes at a considerable cost to the bord. The Southern Health Bord is planning the project ahead in order to offer a large number of public beds to elderly people and to cope with an increasing life expectancy. The cost of the entire project is in the region of 100 million euro. 7 of the homes are to be located in Cork. The project is expected to decrease the demand of out sourcing beds but will not eliminate the demand altogether. The centre in Kerry subject to planning permission is to be located in Tralee to as the main larger population centre so as to allow relatives and friends to remain close by. Care in the average private nursing home in the county costs in the region of 600 euro. It`s expected once permission is granted the building process for all 8 homes would take about 12 months.
