As the debate over maternity services at Kerry General Hospital continues a second midwife has been recruited for home births in the county. The position is funded by The Southern Health Board and was filled after some mothers had to be refused a home birth last year because of the high demand. This year around thirty children will be born at home in Kerry. Midwife, Sinead Murphy says the recruitment of a second midwife will lead to an increase in this number.
