Senior Garda calls for on the spot fines for public order offences

A senior Garda in the county says on the spot fines for public order offences would be welcome. Inspector Martin Mc Carthy says Gardai spend too much time in courts waiting for cases to be processed when they could be attending to other duties. The Department of Justice is looking at the idea of issuing fines instead of bringing all cases into court. Inspector Mc Carthy believes it’s a good idea, but not in all cases.
