Hopes are fading for a fisherman who fell overboard from a fishing vessel 60 miles south of Mizen this morning. The Le Orla, a UK based search and rescue helicopter and an Air Corps Casa 252 aircraft are all at the scene. Two merchant ships which were in the area are also assisting. The fisherman fell overboard from the Spanish registered vessel at around 7 o clock this morning. He was wearing yellow oilskins and a life jacket and would have been a strong visual target for the air search but so far there has not been a sighting. The Waterford rescue helicopter which was at the scene earlier has gone back to base but may return later. Conditions at sea are described as calm, visibility is up to 7 kilometres, and the swell is around 2 metres high. The whole operation is being coordinated by Valentia coastguard.
