Count two has seen no candidate reach the quota in the Listowel Municipal District Count afresh in the John Mitchels GAA Club in Tralee. The count afresh arose following a legal challenge taken by Independent candidate Dan Kiely who narrowly missed out on a seat in the local elections of 2014. Count two consisted of the distribution of Independent Kate Carmody’s 285 votes after she was eliminated. Fianna Fail’s John Brassil and Sinn Fein’s Robert Beasley were elected on the first count having exceeded the quota. The quota stands at 1,843 (down 2 on 2014) The full result of count two is as follows Aoife Thornton FG – 1,617 ( +31) Dianne Nolan SF – 1,290 (+20) Liam Purtill FG -1,054 (+14) Jimmy Moloney FF – 1,022 (+17) Dan Kiely IND -955 (+23) Mike Kennelly FG – 852 (+6) Tim Buckley FG – 855 (+22) Michael O’Gorman IND – 848 (+46) Pat Leahy LAB – 771 (+12) Tom Walsh IND- 675 (+16) Katie Lucid McCabe LAB – 577 (+12) Brian Finucane PBP – 426 (+36) Brian Finucane PBP is eliminated and his 426 votes are now being distributed. After count two Dan Kiely is 3 votes down on where he was on 2014 Jimmy Moloney down one and Mike Kennelly down one. In the final shake up in 2014 – just five votes separated these candidates. John Brassil’s first preference was down 7 votes on 2014 so his surplus will be keenly watched in the coming counts.
