Requests to new owners for Jeanie to visit Kerry

A member of the restructured Board of Directors of the Jeanie Johnston says it would not be viable to keep the famine ship in the county. Shareholders in the project, Kerry County Council and Tralee Town Council have agreed to the sale of the Jeanie to the Dublin Docklands Development Authority for 2.7 million euro. However a request is to be made to the new owners that the ship visit the county for a period each year as a gesture of goodwill. Cllr Paul O Donohue says the Jeanie Johnston could not have resided in Kerry full time. Councillor Norma Foley says she is optimistic that the Dublin Docklands Authority will allow Jeanie to visit the county.
