A report on how best to dispose of a 500 tonne pit of sludge in Castleisland will be completed in the next fortnight. The report is being prepared by Kerry County Council after tests found the contents to be non hazardous. The Council is examining a number of options in consultation with the EPA. The pit was left after a Castleisland company that was treating the waste went into liquidation. The council is to outline a number of different options for disposal. They will then consult with the epa and the landowner on the best way forward.
