Almost 10,000 people in Corca Dhuibhne are being invited to register for a primary care project. The initiave is a new concept which aims to provide a more comprehensive service to patients. All 7 GP’s on the peninsula have singed up for the intiave and they are joined by public health nurses, mental health workers, physiotherapists and a social worker. A team of 50 health practitioners are part of this initiave which is aimed at providing more comprehensive care. All of the health professional involved will share information. This means patients should have direct access to a physiotherapist, there will be more screening for diabetes and greater health promotion will take place throughout the region.Since the setting up the West Kerry primary care team a social work service has been established. A mental health programme has also been put in place as well as a parenting programme. It`s hoped to have the 10,000 people living on the peninsula registered with the project by June of next year.
