The Returning Officer and County Registrar for Kerry, Padraig Burke is advising people of the importance of reading the instructions at the top of the ballot paper ahead of voting in the General Election. The recent count afresh which took place in light of a case taken by former Sentator Dan Kiely related to whether a 3-4-5 marked on a ballot paper in the absence of any marking of a number 1 could be deemed valid in an election. At the initial count, Dan Kiely lost his seat by just two votes. The subsequent count afresh, ordered by the Supreme Court which found for Mr. Kiely, saw no change to the Listowel Municipal Area and Dan Kiely was not elected.
