Quarry development rejected by planners.

A proposal to develop a quarry at Caheragh near Castleisland has been rejected by planners after objections form local groups. The objections centered around the increased traffic the quarry would generate and the possibility of pollution. The proposal from John A Wood was for a 27 hectare quarry. In its decision the council cited the closeness of the development to dwellings adding that the noise and dust emissions would seriously injure the amenities of the area and depreciate the value of property. John A Wood claims the quarry will generate 50 jobs. The company can appeal the council`s decision to An Bord Pleanala.
