A proposal to demolish the former Denny site in Tralee has been submitted to Government. Cllrs Norma Foley and Toireasa Ferris raised the issue at the monthly meeting of Tralee Municipal District. Both councillors called on the Municipal District to immediately seek funding under the new 30 million euro regeneration scheme recently announced by Government. Council management said it has submitted a detailed development proposal for the Denny site which was donated to the local authority by Kerry Group. This is the number one priority under the Designated Urban Centre Grant Scheme and involves the demolition of the site, its interim use as an amenity area and the preparation of a Master Plan for its future long term development. Meanwhile, the council also revealed that Dunnes Stores have indicated they are no longer in favour of a proposal for an alteration to the boundary wall between the supermarket and the new walkway from Edward Street to Rock Street. The council, which acknowledged the patience of residents in Casement’s Avenue during the works, said it will proceed with the wall the way it is.
