Planning permission refused for proposed development in Ballybunnion

A multi million euro proposed development along the coast of Ballybunion has failed to receive outline planning permission because it would be detrimental to the setting of Ballybunion Castle according to An Board Pleanala. The developer looked for permission for a hotel, holiday homes, houses and 50 car parking spaces along the picturesque Sandhill Road in the town. Ballybunion Castle and a fort are recorded monuments, while the former coach house is a protected structure. All of these landmarks are in close proximity to the proposed development. A number of locals had also lodged their objection to the appeals board.
