Gaelscoil Lios Tuathail has been refused planning permission to construct an entrance at Library Road. Listowel Town Council refused planning permission for the proposed site because of the increased traffic it would generate. Objections were lodged by twenty residents of a housing estate near by. The proposed application is close to the one being used at the moment and includes provision for parking for teachers and visitors as well as a drop off area.An enforcement order had been issued by Listowel Town Council ordering the school to stop using the Library Road entrance in the town as it claimed it did not have planning permission. Concern had also been expressed by councillors about the safety of children entering the school from this road. The Gaelscoil is located on the grounds of Listowel Community College, which is owned by Kerry Education Service.Twenty residents from Willow Court, Willow Place and the Charles Street area of the town submitted their objection to the application because of traffic concerns. The Gaelscoil may decide to take the councils decision to An Board Pleanala. If they decide not to fight the council`s decision an alternative entrance will now have to be found for students attending the school.
