Planning permission is being sought for an 868 seat conference centre in Killarney. The major development is earmarked for the site of a former hotel in the town. Torcbridge Limited is seeking permission for the first phase of a visitor and conference centre on a 6.6 acre site formerly known as the Torc Great Southern Hotel on Park Road, Killarney. This development will involve a conference centre of 3,047 square metres incorporating seven multi-purpose auditoria with a total seating capacity of 868. There will also be four cafés, bars and restaurants and a new vehicular entrance off Park Road with a priority controlled junction at Friary Downs. The plans include a 163 space car park and 10 coach parking spaces and new emergency gates for fire brigade access. There will also be a new landscaped public space facing Park Road which includes lands in the ownership of Killarney Town Council. Kerry County Council planners will decide on the application in the coming months.
