Permission has been granted for lighting for a Tralee running track. The case had been appealed to An Bord Pleanala by Lakes and Rivers of Kerry, Salmon and Trout Conservation and Protection Association. Tralee Harriers Athletic Club had applied to Kerry County Council for permission for 21 six-metre-high lighting columns around the running track within the athletics field on the Dan Spring Road. Lakes and Rivers of Kerry, Salmon and Trout Conservation and Protection Association appealed the case to the planning appeals board questioning the need for the lights in the first place and raising concerns that the lights would distract motorists. However, An Bord Pleanála decided to grant permission for the lighting with revised conditions. These include that the floodlighting will not be used beyond 10pm and that the lights will be angled and constructed so as to prevent glare to road users.
