People asked to make views known on shared space plans for Tralee town centre

People are being asked to make their views known on plans to introduce a shared space in Tralee town centre. Kerry County Council’s plans take in Lower Rock Street, Russell Street, Bridge Street and the Mall. These works include developing three level surfaces or shared surface areas; one on lower Rock Street, one beginning mid-way on Russell Street to mid-way on Bridge Street, and a full level surface from Bridge Street to the end of the Mall. Cars parked on Denny Street car parkNew controlled crossings are proposed – a zebra crossing on Bridge Street to replace the existing one at Caballs, a signalised crossing on the Mall at Quinlan’s, and a signalised crossing at the end of the Mall to replace the existing zebra crossings. The plans involve introducing a 30km/hr speed limit zone in the town centre, and removing the existing parking and taxi rank from Bridge Street and the Mall. The taxi rank will relocate to Denny Street, and three loading bays will be provided between Bridge Street and the Mall. Street furniture, seating, planting, and bicycle parking will be incorporated into Bridge Street and the Mall, and public lighting will be upgraded. The plans are available to view at council offices or online, and submissions and observations can be made up until the 8th of July.
