Over half a million euro was paid to 5 Kerry solicitors in legal aid fees last year. The figures from the Department of Justice showed that nationally the state paid over 28 million to solicitors in legal aid fees in 2015. The largest payment was made to Cork based Solicitor Frank Buttimer – who received almost €549,000 in legal aid fees last year. The largest payment in Kerry was made to Killarney solicitor Padraig O’Connell who was paid 237,000 euro last year. The next largest payment in the county was made to Tralee Solicitor Pa Daly who received almost 87,000 euro, while Listowel Solicitor Pat Enright was paid almost 80,000 euro in legal aid fees. Tralee solicitor Pat Mann was paid almost 69,000 euro, while another Tralee solicitor Nuala Liston earned almost 28,000 euro in legal aid fees in 2015.
