The allocation, which has been approved by Irish Water, is earmarked for Castlegregory and Ballyferriter. €230,000 has been allocated for the upgrade of the Baile an Fheirteáraigh wastewater treatment plant while €100,000 is to be provided for improvements in Castlegregory. West Kerry Councillor, Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald, said the works were long overdue as the existing plants in these areas are overloaded. Irish Water is working on the design with Kerry County Council and the projects are expected to be completed by the middle of next year. The funding has been welcomed by Deputy Brendan Griffin, Senator Marie Moloney and Minister for State Jimmy Deenihan.
