Over 11,000 cyclists are taking part in the annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle today. The first tranche of cyclists left Beech Road this morning at 4.30am following by a second contingent at 6am and a third at 8am. Gardaí in Killarney have advised of a number of road closures which are in effect today. The N71, Mission Road, Killarney will be closed from 11.30 to 8 this evening – starting at Kenmare Place and finishing at the junction of the N71, Mission Road and the R877, New Street. Beech Road, Killarney (L3909) is closed from 12noon until 8pm – starting at the junction of the L3909, Beech Road and the R877, New Street and finishing at the junction of the L3909, Beech Road and the N71, Mission Road. The N70, Killorglin to Caragh Bridge is closed until 12noon – starting at the Iveragh Road Roundabout via Iveragh Road, Tullig, Quaybaun and finishing at Caragh Bridge. (A one-way traffic diversion will be in place for traffic travelling eastbound from Caherciveen and Glenbeigh on the L-4022/L-4033/L-4034 Local Primary routes via Dooks, Cromane, Garraun and Castleconway. Traffic travelling westbound from Killorglin to Glenbeigh will remain on the N70.) The R568, Sneem to Molls Gap road is closed from 11am and will remain closed until 8pm this evening – starting at the junction of the R568 and the L4074 at Derreendarragh Cross and finishing at the junction of the R568 and the N71 at Molls Gap. Also the N71, Kenmare to Torc Road is closed from 11am and will remain closed until 8pm – starting at the junction of the N70 and N71 at Gortamullin via Molls Gap and Galway’s Bridge and finishing at Torc Waterfall Car Park. Motorists travelling between Killarney and Kenmare at the above times are advised to use the alternative N22 / R569 route via Glenflesk and Kilgarvan.
