An oral hearing is taking place this week on a multi-million-euro road project in mid Kerry.
An Bord Pleanala will host the hearing in Killarney. The Kilderry Bends on the N70 between Killorglin and Milltown was named in the top 50 most dangerous bends in the country by the National Roads Authority. It’s been a long term goal of Kerry County Council to realign the N70 at this location which has been the site of numerous accidents over the years. The road project, which would cost around 10 million euro and would require funding from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, involves a new 3.5 kilometre road being built from near Kennedy’s Cross at Tinahalla to Knockavota near the graveyard in Milltown. Kerry County Council is to acquire the land through compulsory purchase order. Around 25 landowners will be affected and it is understood around five are objecting. The oral hearing will allow all sides present their cases to the An Bord Pleanala inspector at the Malton Hotel, Killarney this Wednesday.
