Members of the public, voluntary organisations and groups are being invited to submit nominations for this year’s Hugh O’Flaherty International Humanitarian Award. The award was set up in memory of Killarney cleric Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty, who helped save the lives of more than 6,500 people in Rome during World War II. Last year’s winner was Redemptorist Missionary, Fr Seán Myers, who has dedicated his life to his parish in Brazil. Previous winners include Goal aid workers Sharon Commins and Hilda Kawuki, UK Dr John Beavis and Tralee teenager Donal Walsh, who received the award posthumously in 2013. The closing date for nominations is June 24th.
