No major obstetric events reported at University Hospital Kerry in December

No major obstetric events were reported by University Hospital Kerry to the National Incident Management System in December 2015. Maternity Patient Safety Statements have been published for each of the country’s 19 maternity hospitals and units and were put in place following recommendations made by HIQA. University Hospital Kerry3The Maternity Patient Safety Statement for University Hospital Kerry provides up to date information for management and clinicians who provide maternity services in relation to patient safety issues. The statements contain information on 17 metrics covering a range of clinical activities, major obstetric events, modes of delivery and clinical incidents. The objective in publishing these statements is to provide public assurance that maternity services are delivered in an environment that promotes open disclosure. Total births at University Hospital Kerry in December 2015 amounted to 108 and no major obstetric events – including eclampsia; uterine rupture; peripartum hysterectomy or pulmonary embolism – were reported. The rate of induction of labour per total mothers delivered at University Hospital Kerry in December was 11.0% and the rate of caesarean section per total mothers delivered was 32%.
