No arrests or prosecutions in relation to Kerry gorse fires

There have been no arrests or prosecutions following a series of gorse fires earlier this year. Gorse Fire Cordal There was a 700 percent increase in the number of gorse fires in Kerry in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period last year. Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Heather Humphries is carrying out a review of section 40 for the Wildlife Act which makes it an offence to burn gorse from March 1st to August 31st. A number of interagency meetings were held in April and May including the Gardaí, Kerry County Council, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Coillte and the fire service. Investigations into the cause of the fires continue.
