Work is due to start in the coming weeks on traffic calming measures on Denny Street and Ivy Terrace in Tralee.

The proposals have caused controversy, with some of the business community claiming that reducing the number of parking spaces on Denny Street will affect their trade.

The plans involve changing the current angle parking on Denny Street to parallel parking, and developing pedestrian crossings and altering other traffic signals and road markings to allow for two-way traffic and the relocation of taxi ranks from the Mall to Denny Street.

A report on the public consultation on this plan came before the Tralee Municipal District meeting this week, and councillors gave it the green light; works should begin in the next few weeks.
