It’s hoped work could start on a new road in south Kerry early in the new year.
The Cliff Road in Rossbeigh fell into the sea in mid-September 2015.
Cliff Road was a cul-de-sac tertiary road serving 14 homes.
It was severely undermined by coastal erosion and was closed for safety reasons.
That closure has had a major impact on the local community with very limited solutions given the landscape of the area.
The only viable solution was to build a brand new road.
This will cost 1.1 million euro.
550,000 euro will be provided by the State.
The remainder will be a loan taken out by Kerry County Council repayable over 15 years.
Approval has now been given to the local authority to draw down that loan.
It is anticipated that the project will be opened to tenders soon with work hopefully to begin early next year.
