The woman, who has a postal address is in Cork, was told she would only qualify for 11 hours because she lived in Co Kerry.
A double amputee, she had been informed she was entitled to 23 hours of enhanced homecare after her release from hospital.
However, when it transpired that she was resident in Co Kerry but had a Cork postal address, she was told she would only get 11 hours. The woman is living half a kilometre inside the county bounds.
Her plight was highlighted by Kerry Independent Alliance councillor Michael Gleeson at the May meeting of the local authority.
Cllr Gleeson said it was ‘immoral’ what was happening and called for parity between the entitlements of patients in Cork and Kerry.
His motion was seconded by Independent councillor Maura Healy-Rae.
Chairman of Kerry County Council Pat McCarthy asked if the matter should be brought to the attention of the Ombudsman, while Sinn Féin’s Pa Daly said it should be referred to the Minister for Health.
Cllr Gleeson has called for the allocation of homecare hours in Co Kerry to be increased to Cork levels.
