A Kerry filmmaker has received an international award.
Fís na Fuineoige, a bilingual documentary directed by Aodh Ó Coileáin from Dingle has scooped top honours at London’s Irish Film Festival.
The documentary focuses on Ireland’s literary tradition through the medium of Irish language poetry.
This can be traced back to the 4th century with monks writing poetry in places like the Skelligs and Glendalough.
Modern day Irish language poets – including Cathal Ó Searcaigh, Louis de Paor and Kerry poets Paddy Bushe and Nuala Ní Dhomhnail – are also represented in the film.
The award was presented to Áodh Ó Coileáin at a ceremony at the Irish Embassy in London.
