At 2pm today, a commemoration of the role of Tomas Aghas will be held at his birth place of Kinard, Lispole.
The West Kerry native was the last Commandant to surrender to the British after the Easter Rising.
Risteard Mac Eoin, one of the organisers of the commemoration, says there are a number of events taking place.
Meanwhile, there will be a commemoration of the life of Michael Joseph O’Rahilly in Ballylongford, including the unveiling of a bust in the local church grounds at 5.30pm.
Later there will be a performance of ‘The Unsung Hero’ in Ballylongford Community Centre at 8.30pm.
