« BackTUI members at ITT being balloted on industrial action

TUI members at IT Tralee are being balloted as part of a national ballot on whether to take industrial action.

This is due to their concerns around what they say is the under funding of ITs and low staffing levels while student numbers are increasing.
Union members at IT Tralee previously rejected the Haddington Road Agreement and want to negotiate alone with the government over pay and conditions, budgets and contracts.
Meanwhile, the Technological Universities bill was passed by cabinet this week.
The bill paves the way for the merger of IT Tralee and CIT which will be known as the Munster Technological University.
Earlier this year the Teachers’ Union of Ireland lodged a formal dispute with the Institute of Technology Tralee and Cork Institute of Technology in relation to their plans to merge.
TUI members in ITT say they are not cooperating with merger.
